日本では１年以上在留している場合、原則として国民健康保険の加入が義務づけられています。保険料の納付が必要ですが、怪我や病気などで治療を受ける場合、一般的には３０％の負担で医療を受けることができます。収入が少ない方の場合、保険料が軽減される制度もあります。

If you stay in Japan for more than one year, as a general rule, you are required to take out Social Insurance (National Health Insurance). You must pay the premium for the insurance, but that will entitle you to receive medical treatment for a 30% co-pay fee when receiving treatment due to injury or illness.
There is also a system whereby the social insurance premium will be reduced for low-income earners.
